My dad loves two things: Camping and riding his recumbent bike. So I was thrilled to be able to join him and his wife (whom he also loves, of course!) for some beautiful, peaceful time out at Abraham Lake on the edge of the Rockies where we were able to ride together on the David Thompson Highway, which is pretty quiet in that area. We rode toward the west, right into an incredible headwind! Dad turned around a bit before me but I only made it 12.5K out before I got tired of fighting the wind and wanted to turn around. My ride back to the campsite took half the time that it took for me to ride out! But, the wind aside, it is incredibly beautiful there and I had to keep myself from stopping every 200 metres to take a picture! It was a treat to ride in such a magnificent place and enjoy a glass of wine with my dad afterward.

Summer Riding Bliss
After a great indoor cycling season, I was so happy to be able to get out on the road again and ride with my new hips and pain-free, stronger body! Sometimes I rode by myself, just to be able to ride without feeling like everyone was waiting for me (I'm still a bit slow). Other times, I rode with friends. My friend Judy is training for an Ironman in November so we did a couple of rides together when she was tired and slower. LOL. It was great to ride with her. We went out east of the city and rode the beautiful, quiet roads of Strathcona County.
I also rode with old and new friends on the roads to the west of town. Cycling on the prairies in July is gorgeous with all the canola in bloom! It was such a gorgeous summer of riding!
